“Shut Up and Eat” signing – July 17th, 2010

Thanks to Kathy for coming all the way out west from Ontario, making us laugh, and signing so many copies of her book “Shut Up and Eat: Tales of Chicken, Children & Chardonnay“! Another big thanks to Janice from Real Food Made Easy for providing the amazing food!

“My Think-a-ma-Jink” signing – July 11th, 2010

Thanks to Dave Whamond, his family, and everyone who came to the signing on Sunday July 11th! Dave read from his new picture book “My Think-a-ma-Jink“, did a drawing demonstration, and signed copies of his book!

Pinkalicious Day – June 26th, 2010

We had a very pink day at Tall Tales Books as we celebrated the release of the brand new Pinkalicious books: “Pinkalicious and the Pink Drink” & “Pinkalicious School Rules!“!

Everyone had a great time making their own crowns and wands, enjoying pink lemonade, and a bunch of lucky kids received free cupcakes from Pink Sugar Cupcakery! We also raised a bunch of money for Margaret Jenkins Elementary School to help them purchase a new playground!

“Restoring Harmony” signing – June 12th, 2010

We had a great time at Tall Tales with BC author Joëlle Anthony as she shared an amazing presentation about her new novel “Restoring Harmony” and signed copies of her book for those in attendance! Also on hand was her husband and musician Victor and local fiddler Sarah Tradewell who both performed amazing music from the novel! Big thanks to Joëlle, Victor, Sarah and her family, and everyone who attended!

Book launch of three new books from local authors and illustrator! – May 15, 2010

Thank you and congratulations to Robin Stevenson, Sylvia Olsen, and Mike Deas who were all at Tall Tales Books on Saturday May 15th for the launch of their new books (Ben’s Robot, A Different Game and Food Fight)! Fun was had by everyone as they signed copies of their books and answered questions. Mike even did a drawing demonstration for everyone in attendance! A big thank you to Leslie, Andrew, and the rest of Orca Book Publishers!

Comic Book Workshop with Mike Deas! – March 20th, 2010

Local Graphic Novel artist Mike Deas led a really cool workshop for lucky budding comic book artists and covered character design, composition, perspective, and storytelling in the comic book medium! Mike is the artist for the very popular Graphic Guide Adventures series which includes Wild Ride, Ramp Rats, Soccer Sabotage, Media Meltdown, and the upcoming Food Fight!

“Island Kids” Book Launch – February 20th, 2010

The launch of local author Tara Saracuse’s new book “Island Kids” was a massive success! We estimated that about 100 people came to the event, over 40 of which were kids (including a Girl Guide troop and a kid’s book club)! Tara did two incredible readings from her book and some of the “kids” whose stories are in the book were also in attendance! A big thanks to Tara, her family, and Brindle and Glass Publishing for all their help and for putting on such an amazing event at our store! If you haven’t had a chance to see Tara’s book yet, come by the store to check it out and support local talent!

Salvation Army Charity Drive – December 20th, 2009

Our “Under the Giving Tree” Salvation Army charity drive was a success! Everyone involved was able to collect enough clothes, toiletries, and food to prepare 30 Christmas care packages for needy men, women, and children in our community as well as three boxes of extra items! A huge thanks to the families of Cloverdale School for collecting so many donations as well as Ms. Patterson’s Grade 5 class for preparing the care package “reindeer”!

Grand Opening Party – September 27th, 2009

Thank you to everyone who made our Grand Opening Party such a success! We had two fantastic storytime sessions, appearances by author Polly Horvath and illustrator Mike Deas (including the book launch for Mike’s new Graphic Guide Adventure book “Media Meltdown“), free cupcakes from Pink Sugar Cupcakery, amazing prizes, and hilarious entertainment from PoCo the clown!
